NEW YORK (WPIX) — The first weekend of early voting is over, and mayoral candidates are racing to seize the last chance to convince voters they are the best choice.
Zohran Mamdani made his case in New York City’s Queens borough, with notable progressive supporters joining him on stage at Forest Hills Stadium.
Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and independent Sen. Bernie Sanders, along with New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, stood in front of a packed house in Queens to show their support for the Democratic nominee in the race for New York City mayor.
Trump on seeking a third term: ‘I would love to do it’
Gov. Hochul heard some boos, some chants of “Tax the rich!” and held her hand high alongside Mamdani as the sun set in Forest Hills.
Ocasio-Cortez made comments regarding President Donald Trump, saying, “We will send a loud message to President Donald Trump that his authoritarianism is not good here.”
Sanders championed the idea of Mamdani winning the election as an example for the nation to follow.
“A victory here in New York will give hope and inspiration to people throughout our country and throughout the world,” Sanders said.
