(NewsNation) — Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., fell as he walked to the Capitol for votes on Thursday. It happened in the basement of the Russell Senate office building.

The video shows McConnell holding an aide’s hand as he walks. He then lets go of the hand and continues walking as volunteers and activists with the Sunrise Movement, which calls itself “the climate revolution,” ask him about ICE. He doesn’t answer, but he falls down, bracing himself with his left hand.

As the aide and a security guard help him back to his feet, McConnell waves to the camera and smiles.

McConnell, 83, has served in the Senate since 1985 and was the Republican leader from 2006 to 2024. He had two episodes in recent years where he appeared to freeze while responding to a question.

Earlier this year, McConnell announced he would not seek an eighth term when his seat is up again in 2026.
