(NewsNation) — In the wake of conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s killing, President Donald Trump has vowed to go after liberal groups, saying without solid evidence that “the Left” is to blame for recent political violence.
“The radical left poses tremendous violence, and they seem to do it in a bigger way,” Trump said. “They’ve caused a lot of problems for this country. I really think they hate our country.”
Trump has also said he would consider naming far-left group antifa as domestic terrorists for allegedly inciting violence.
Bondi clarifies ‘hate speech’ comment after blowback
When Vice President JD Vance hosted “The Charlie Kirk Show” on Monday, he said the Trump administration would go after “the NGO networks,” which are nonprofit, volunteer groups organized by individuals or institutions that are independent of the government. Vance also claimed they engage in political violence.
This move from the administration means that there would be a review of the tax-exempt status of left-leaning, nonprofit groups, targeting them with anti-corruption laws. They say these groups played a role in Kirk’s assassination.
Currently, investigators are looking for a motive from 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, Kirk’s accused killer. Robinson allegedly had an inscription carved into the ammunition, saying “hey fascist! CATCH!” leading to Trump saying most of the current political violence is on the Left.
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro has also spoken out to denounce political violence. Shapiro also recounted his own experience, pointing to the April attempt to burn down the Democratic governor’s home on Passover while he and his family were inside.

“I believe we have a responsibility to be clear and unequivocal in calling out all forms of political violence, making clear it is all wrong,” Shapiro said during a summit on Tuesday. “That shouldn’t be hard to do. Unfortunately, some of the dark corners of the internet all the way to the Oval Office want to cherry-pick which instances of political violence they want to condemn.”
Shapiro added that doing that only divides the nation further.
White House official Stephen Miller said U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi is set to investigate who is funding far-left groups whose members engage in political violence.
