(NewsNation) — HGTV has canceled several shows in recent weeks, as it tries to cut costs amid declining ratings and high material prices.

The network axed “Battle on the Beach” earlier this month, and over the past few weeks has also canceled six more shows: “Christina on the Coast,” starring Christina Hall; “The Flipping El Moussas,” starring Tarek El Moussa and wife Heather Rae El Moussa;” “Farmhouse Fixer; “Married to Real Estate;” “Bargain Block;” and “Izzy Does It,” according to Deadline.

HGTV cancels ‘Battle of the Beach’ and more in ongoing series cuts

“‘Battle on the Beach’ did not get picked back up, which is sad, because it was like adult spring break,” host Alison Victoria said on her podcast “Pap Smear.”

HGTV: A victim to rising renovation materials

The rising costs of home renovation materials, which will get more expensive when President Donald Trump’s tariffs go into effect, as well as falling ratings, have led the network to reevaluate its brand, Deadline reports.

“Home reno shows are expensive because all of the materials are jacked up and on delay, the price of wood and marble and everything else is going up so these shows don’t make as much sense anymore,” a source told the outlet.

According to Deadline, HGTV home renovation shows can cost upward of $500,000.

HGTV’s viewers leave the building

HGTV was one of the most watched networks on TV, behind History, Discovery Channel, TNT, USA Network and TBS, and even eclipsed those networks in 2019 to become the top cable network with originals outside of news and sports, according to Deadline. However, the network has seen a steep decline in viewers in recent years, averaging 773,000 viewers last year.

“The viewers have just left the building and they’re not coming back,” one source told Deadline.
