(NewsNation) — A New Hampshire judge has issued an injunction blocking President Donald Trump’s executive order ending birthright citizenship following a Supreme Court ruling curtailing national injunctions.
Judge Joseph LaPlante certified a class action lawsuit covering children affected by the order, which would cover those born in the U.S. to parents who are in the country temporarily or illegally.
Birthright citizenship is enshrined in the Constitution, and multiple legal challenges have been brought against the law.
The Supreme Court has not weighed in on the executive order itself, but did recently issue a decision that limits the ability of federal judges to issue broad, nationwide injunctions.
