AI use by US employees nearly doubles in 2 years: Report

(NewsNation) — The use of artificial intelligence at work in the United States has increased by nearly double in the past two years, according to Gallup.

Employees who claim they have used AI a few times or more in a year have gone from 21% to 40% since 2023. Those who say they use AI a few times a week or more have gone from 11% to 19% since 2023.

In the past year, daily use of AI has reportedly gone from 4% to 8%.

Gallup says AI use has increased mostly for white-collar jobs

Gallup says that the adoption of AI has become more prevalent in white-collar jobs. The study found that 27% of white-collar employees say they frequently use AI for work, which is 12% higher than in 2024. The industries that have the highest percentages of employees who use AI are:

Technology: 50%

Professional services: 34%

Finance 32%

AI use by production and front-line workers has remained steady for the past two years, according to Gallup. It shifted slightly from 2023 (11%), now at 9%.

Leaders more likely to use AI: Gallup study

Gallup’s study showed that those who are leaders (which they define as managers of managers) are more likely to use AI frequently, at 33%. Only 16% of individual contributors claim that they use AI a few times a week or more.

Despite the use of AI increasing, only 15% of employees believe it is very or somewhat likely that AI, automation or robots will take their job within the next five years. This has not changed from 2023 and 2024. There are some industries, however, that are more likely to believe this, including:

Technology: 21%

Retail: 21%

Finance: 20%

Many employees use AI at work with no guidance: Gallup

According to Gallup, 44% of employees said that their organization has started using AI, but only 22% said their organization has communicated how it should be used clearly. In the study, 30% of employees said that their companies have at least given some general policies for using AI.
