(NewsNation) — Apple plans to increase manufacturing of United States-bound iPhones in India by the end of 2026, while President Donald Trump has used global tariffs to push for American-made products.
The move signals a business-driven shift in response to the high tariffs Trump placed on China and the subsequent tension between the two countries. Apple had already begun to move away from China during the pandemic.
Apple aims to double its annual iPhone production in India, Bloomberg News reported.

Earlier this month, the Trump administration announced its reciprocal tariffs on China would not include electronics, including smartphones.
While Trump urges American-based manufacturing, some economists said production costs would in turn triple the consumer price.
Wedbush analyst Dan Ives told The Guardian, “If consumers want a $3,500 iPhone, we should make them in New Jersey or Texas or another state.”
The new iPhone 17 is expected to be released in September and will cost between $799-1,099, depending on the model.
