(NewsNation) — As President Trump’s second administration nears its 100th day, the commander in chief continues to make whiplash-inducing decisions.
This week, Trump suggested he’ll reduce tariffs on Chinese goods after U.S. retail giants warned him about the prospect of empty shelves. He’s also pulling back on criticisms of Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell after his previous comments about ousting Powell roiled financial markets.
What’s going on? Former New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu, a Republican, and NewsNation correspondent-at-large Geraldo Rivera joined “NewsNation Now” on Wednesday to weigh in.

“Saying America’s going to be put on top of the world, that’s fine,” Sununu said of Trump’s trade policies. “You just can’t jerk the wheel and slam on the brakes all at once, because you know what happens? Everyone in the car gets a bloody nose when that happens.
“They’re just going a little too hard, a little too fast. It isn’t so much Trump, it’s his team.”
Rivera faults the White House for trying to accomplish too much within the administration’s first 100 days, which he calls an “artificial” deadline. The veteran journalist said the relatively brief period has been marred by controversies and disappointments as well as accomplishments.
“The 100-day anniversary, so to speak, is really very fraught with downside, rather than upside,” Rivera said.
The second Trump administration marks its first 100 days on Wednesday, April 30.
