WASHINGTON D.C. (WXIN) — Will President Donald Trump make an appearance at the Indianapolis 500? Don’t count it out.

On Wednesday, the president hosted several racing champions at the White House including two-time Indy 500 winner Josef Newgarden. Roger Penske was also in attendance.

During the event, Trump praised Penske and hinted at a possible presidential appearance at the Greatest Spectacle in Racing.

“What you’ve done in Indianapolis, also with the track and everything, is really incredible,” Trump told Penske. “People tell me it’s amazing, I’ll have to get there, maybe this year.”

Trump limits tariffs on most nations for 90 days, except China

Penske responded by telling the president he has an open invitation if he wants to attend the 2025 Indianapolis 500.

“Well thank you. Thank you very much,” Trump said.

This wouldn’t be the first time the president has attended a high-profile sports event. Trump was in attendance at the Super Bowl in February, but left before the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs — the team he was apparently cheering for. The president was also at the Daytona 500 earlier this year.

If the president does take up Penske on his open invitation, Hoosiers can expect tightened security at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The Indy 500 is scheduled for Sunday, May 25.
