(NewsNation) — Gov. Josh Green has a simple pitch for recently laid-off federal workers: Move to Hawaii.
Some of America’s governors — mostly Democrats — have a similar message for the wave of fired federal workers: We want you.
The governors are welcoming former federal staffers who lost their jobs in the Trump administration’s widespread cost-cutting agenda to apply for government jobs in their states. Some places are holding job fairs, while Hawaii’s governor says the state is fast-tracking hiring for these applicants.
Schumer defiant as first Dem lawmaker calls for new leadership
“We already had 4,000 vacancies in our state, so I need the workforce,” Green told NewsNation. “And we felt terribly that people were losing their jobs, and we thought we could hire people.”
Operation Hire Hawaii is looking for workers in the following sectors:
Accounting
General services
Agriculture
Defense
Education
Hawaiian home lands
Human services
Transportation
University of Hawaii
“We offer the best health care benefits in the country,” said Green. “As a physician governor, we have that as a badge of honor. And, of course, people could live in Hawaii. We’re focusing first on people already in Hawaii who lost jobs, but we need people of all shapes and sizes and expertise.”
