(NewsNation) — President Donald Trump signed an executive order that declassifies records connected to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, but many fear what releasing what is found in those files may do.

In a conversation with Tucker Carlson, NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo says he believes there is information in the files that implicates the Central Intelligence Agency in Kennedy’s assassination. But Carlson believes something larger is at play.

Cuomo & Carlson: The Conversation continues

“The CIA has already been discredited,” Carlson said.

Why the JFK assassination files haven’t been released

Carlson said he does not know why the files have not been released before now.

“The story doesn’t make sense,” he said.

Trump signed the executive order regarding the JFK files in late January, and as of this week, none of the information found in the files has been released. Carlson said that pressure is being applied to the Trump administration not to release the files. Who that may be pressuring Trump remains unknown, he added.

“We can say with certainty that there is a force that is acting on these people — a very serious force to the point that they are embarrassing themselves because they promised they would release this and they haven’t,” Carlson said.

When will the Jeffrey Epstein files be made public?

The same applies to files related to Jeffrey Epstein, Carlson and Cuomo said. The U.S. Department of Justice recently released hundreds of Epstein files to a group of conservative influencers, but U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi says there are more.

Bondi is now being pressured to release Epstein’s flight log for his private jet and helicopter, according to The Hill.

Immigration needs to be ‘shut down’ until unity restored: Carlson

“Where are the files? Where are they?” Cuomo asked.

In both cases, Cuomo and Carlson agreed that more transparency is needed.

“I’m really concerned that the failure to disclose big things, like the details about the murder of a president in a democratic country or republic, will convince people that our system itself is fake,” Carlson said. “And it’s kind of hard to argue that’s it’s real if you can’t even know who killed the president?”
