Meet the Visionary: An Interview with CEO Nazar Vincent

Can you tell us how Avatar Construction began?

Absolutely! I started my journey over two decades ago with a simple goal: to create spaces that improve people’s lives. Coming from a background in carpentry and engineering, I wanted to blend hands-on craftsmanship with innovative design. We began as a small team in Watertown and have grown into a company that tackles projects all over New England.

What sets Avatar Construction apart from other companies?

We take a holistic approach to construction. Our team handles everything—from the initial concept to the final touches. We believe in open communication, creativity, and attention to detail. We’re not just building buildings; we’re creating environments where people can thrive.

How important is sustainability in your projects?

Sustainability is at the core of what we do. Did you know that buildings account for nearly 40% of global carbon emissions? We want to be part of the solution. We use eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient technologies. For example, installing energy-efficient windows and insulation can reduce a building’s energy use by up to 30%. Our goal is to reduce environmental impact while delivering high-quality results.

Can you share a project that you’re particularly proud of?

One project that stands out is the renovation of CATS Academy in Braintree. We transformed an old industrial building into a modern educational facility. It was a challenge, but seeing students enjoying the new space is incredibly rewarding. We preserved some of the building’s original features while upgrading it with state-of-the-art amenities.

How does Avatar Construction contribute to the community?

Community is everything to us. We actively support local initiatives and nonprofits. For instance, we partner with vocational schools to offer internships and apprenticeships. By investing in the next generation of tradespeople, we’re helping to build a stronger community. Additionally, we participate in charitable events and support organizations like Haley House, which assists homeless and foster children.

What challenges have you faced as a CEO, and how did you overcome them?

One of the biggest challenges was starting a business as an immigrant. I moved to the U.S. from Ukraine at 15, and there were many obstacles—language barriers, cultural differences. But perseverance is key. I immersed myself in learning and wasn’t afraid to get my hands dirty. Building trust with clients and establishing a reputation for quality work helped us grow.

What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs in the construction industry?

Don’t be afraid to take risks and follow your passion. The construction industry is evolving, so stay adaptable and keep learning. Surround yourself with a great team because you can’t do it all alone. And most importantly, focus on building relationships. At the end of the day, it’s about people.

How do you see the future of Avatar Construction?

I’m excited about the future. We’re exploring new technologies like 3D modeling and virtual reality to enhance our design process. We’re also committed to expanding our sustainable practices. Our aim is to continue growing while staying true to our values—innovation, quality, and community engagement.

What are your thoughts on the current housing market, and how is Avatar addressing it?

The housing market is challenging, with rising costs and a shortage of affordable options. According to recent reports, Massachusetts has some of the highest housing costs in the country. At Avatar, we’re focusing on developing multifamily units and luxury apartments that are accessible. We’re also advocating for more investment in trade education to address labor shortages, which can help reduce construction costs and make housing more affordable.

Outside of work, what hobbies or interests do you have?

I have a passion for motorsports and luxury cars. I enjoy racing and see parallels between that and running a business—both require focus, precision, and quick decision-making. I also love spending time with my family, riding motorcycles, and staying active through fitness and horseback riding.
