(The Hill) — Bruce Springsteen is sounding off on Donald Trump after the former president spent much of a recent campaign event listening to songs, with the “Born in the U.S.A.” singer saying that “swaying to music” is his job.

“The whole thing of standing and swaying for 40 minutes at your town hall? I mean, swaying to music, that’s my job,” Springsteen said in an interview with The Telegraph, published Thursday.

During a town hall event in Pennsylvania on Monday, Trump cut questions short following two extended interruptions due to medical episodes in the crowd. He later indicated to staff that he wanted music to be played, and could be seen onstage moving to songs including “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World” by James Brown and Andrea Bocelli’s “Time to Say Goodbye.”

Springsteen calls Trump ‘dangerous’ candidate, backs Harris

Springsteen, who announced his support for Vice President Harris’s White House bid in a lengthy video message earlier this month, slammed Trump for his actions leading up to the riot at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021: “He’s an insurrectionist. You know, he led a coup on the United States government, so there’s no way he should be let anywhere near the office of the presidency.”

A Trump campaign spokesperson didn’t immediately return ITK’s request for comment about Springsteen’s remarks.

Calling Trump “mentally ill,” the 75-year-old Grammy Award winner said he was “not that anxious” about the 45th president’s chances of winning the White House in next month’s election.

“I do believe Kamala Harris is going to win,” Springsteen said.

“Of course, I’ve been wrong before about this,” he continued.

“I think in the States, there’s an enormous anxiety, however, at losing the things that are dearest to us, the danger of losing democracy, rule of law, peaceful transfer of power. And this is a guy who is committed to none of these things,” Springsteen said.

“Are you going to sleep well knowing that the nuclear codes have been given to Donald Trump? No,” Springsteen said.

“No one is.”
