(NewsNation) — President Donald Trump has touted the lower price of Walmart’s Thanksgiving dinner, but while the price is down, this year’s offering has half the items and smaller servings than the year before.
When asked about the change Friday, Trump said he “hadn’t heard” about the size difference and continued to celebrate the 25% reduction in price while calling out what he termed “fake news.”
So what’s the difference?

In 2025, Walmart is advertising a meal that comes out at less than $4 a person. Using the store’s one-click shopping basket gets shoppers a turkey, green beans, cream of mushroom soup, fried onions, dinner rolls, 5 pounds of russet potatoes, fresh cranberries, baby carrots, canned corn, mac and cheese mix, brown gravy mix, pie crusts, evaporated milk and canned pumpkin.
In 2024, the store priced the deal at under $7 a person. That year, customers who got the bundle got a turkey, sweet Hawaiian rolls, canned corn, canned cranberry sauce, canned green beans, cream of mushroom soup, fried onions, brown gravy mix, a Marie Callender’s pecan pie, whipped topping, pie crusts, pumpkin, evaporated milk, mini marshmallows, Jiffy corn muffin mix, poultry seasoning, chicken broth, 5 pounds of Russet potatoes, three fresh sweet potatoes, a pound of yellow onions and fresh celery.
Based on the ingredient list, 2025 diners can expect a meal of turkey, boxed stuffing, gravy, homemade cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, carrots, corn, mashed potatoes, boxed macaroni and cheese, rolls and a homemade pumpkin pie.
The 2024 spread would have included turkey, homemade stuffing, gravy, canned cranberry sauce, corn, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes, rolls and a choice of pecan or homemade pumpkin pie with whipped cream.

In addition to including fewer items, 2025 shoppers can also expect smaller portions.
The 2025 green bean casserole has three cans of green beans and one of soup with 4 ounces of fried onions versus 2024’s two cans each of soup and green beans with 6 ounces of fried onions.
The turkey is smaller, too. In 2024, shoppers got a 16-pound bird, while 2025 diners will be sharing a 13.5-pound main course.
