Here’s why Eric Adams is still on the ballot after dropping out of mayor’s race

NEW YORK (PIX11) — New York City voters may be surprised to see a certain name still on the ballot for mayor this Election Day.

Incumbent Mayor Eric Adams is still listed on voting ballots despite announcing at the end of September that he would suspend his reelection campaign. Any votes for the Independent candidate will still count, a representative from the Board of Elections told PIX11 News.

“His name remains on the ballot because of his choosing to ‘drop out’ well past any legal deadline,” a spokesperson for the agency said.

The deadline for a candidate to have their name removed from the ballot was May 30. Anyone who attempts to withdraw afterward still appears on the ballot.

Former Independent candidate Jim Walden will also still appear on the ballot despite suspending his campaign in early September.

Walden petitioned the court to remove his name; however, a state Supreme Court judge upheld the Board of Elections’ decision.
