NEW YORK (PIX11) — Google and YouTube agreed to pay a $30 million settlement in a class action lawsuit over allegations they collected personal data from children under the age of 13.
According to the lawsuit, Google and YouTube violated privacy laws by collecting data from children watching cartoons, nursery rhymes, and child-directed content on YouTube.
Google then allegedly used the data it collected for its advertising business.

The lawsuit impacts children who watched videos on YouTube between July 1, 2013, and April 1, 2020.
YouTube has denied any wrongdoing.
Class members can receive a cash payment. The amount will vary depending on the number of claims.
The final approval hearing is Jan. 13, 2026. Class members must submit a valid claim form by Jan. 21, 2026.
