(NewsNation) — Discount supermarket chain Aldi is offering an inflation-busting Thanksgiving meal package that will be tough to beat: $40 for a traditional spread that feeds 10 people.
First, the fine print. Aldi is selling “21 total products and ingredients” that the buyer prepares for this year’s Turkey Day, Nov. 27. Te $40 price tag for all items, including a 14-pound turkey, potatoes and rolls, represents a $7 drop from last year’s tab. Executives said this year’s $4 per-person cost is less than the price of a pumpkin spice latte.
“Saving our shoppers money is our mission every day — but is especially important during the holidays when they need it most,” ALDI’s U.S. CEO, Atty McGrath, said in a news release Wednesday.
Here are the most heated Thanksgiving food fights
Other major retailers have tended to offer their own Thanksgiving meal packages for one low price. Last year, for example, Walmart touted a prepare-it-yourself package that served eight people for less than $7 a head. Target in 2024 pitched a $20 dinner ensemble that served four people.
It wasn’t immediately clear if competitors would try to match or beat Aldi’s deal.
Shoppers have the option of going to an Aldi supermarket to assemble all of the ingredients, or they can order them for pickup or delivery. The meal package is offered through Dec. 24.
