Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and House Republican leaders gave remarks Friday morning as the government shutdown stretched into a 10th day.
Johnson, who rebuffed requests to bring the House back to vote on military pay during the lapse in funding, has pressed Republicans to remain unified over the clean “continuing resolution” that was passed in the lower chamber last month.
The Senate departed Washington on Thursday after a failed seventh vote to reopen the government, ensuring that the shutdown will reach its two-week mark come Tuesday. This also means that members of the military will likely miss their first paycheck.
Democrats have thus far shown no signs of walking back their demands for health care concessions.
The Friday press conference was scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EDT.
