How to make NewsNation a preferred source on Google

(NewsNation) — Google has a new feature that lets users prioritize news outlets they trust.

The search giant recently launched “preferred sources,” a tool that lets you choose which outlets you want to see in the “Top stories” section.

Once you’ve built your list, articles from those outlets will start appearing more prominently when they publish content related to your search.

Here’s how it works and how to add NewsNation as a preferred source.

What is a preferred source on Google?

When you search for a topic in the news, Google’s algorithms rank stories based on factors like relevance, prominence and the publisher’s authority. The “Top stories” section is one of the main places those articles appear.

With preferred sources, you can create a list of outlets you want to see more often in your results.

The feature, which launched in August, lets users add as many sources as they want, ensuring there’s still room for a balanced news diet.

How to make NewsNation a preferred source on Google

Let’s say you’re tired of the usual politically biased cable news outlets and want more of NewsNation’s fact-driven coverage. You can set it as a preferred source on Google.

Simply log in to your Google account and search for a news topic like “inflation report” on Google.

Click here and a new tab will pop up that asks you to choose your “preferred sources.” Search for NewsNation and check the box, that’s it!

Refresh your page and you’ll see more stories from NewsNation — and any others you choose — under the “From your sources” section on Google.

Will I still see other news sources on Google?

Setting preferred sources doesn’t block out everything else — you’ll still see articles from other sites, and you can update your list whenever you like.

The only difference is that your preferred sources will start to show up more frequently.

Google said over half of users choose four or more sources, and value being able to select a range of options.

Focused on delivering fact-based, unbiased news, NewsNation is rated in the political “center” according to the Ad Fontes Media Bias Chart.
