(NewsNation) — Rep. Jeff Crank, R-Colo., said he views the attack on conservative activist Charlie Kirk as an “attack on America.”

“It was an attack on the values our country holds dear,” Crank told “Morning in America” on Tuesday, “An attack on the belief that we can work together, that we disagree with one another, but at the end of the day, we’re still Americans.”

He also called on leaders to speak out, stressing that Kirk’s assassination cannot be tolerated.

‘Good evidence’ in Charlie Kirk shooting to be revealed in charging docs

Last week, Kirk was fatally shot while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University. Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA and an ally of President Donald Trump, was widely credited with energizing young Republican voters and playing a key role in Trump’s 2024 presidential victory.

Prosecutors were preparing to file charges against Kirk’s accused killer, Tyler Robinson, on Tuesday. Robinson is expected to be formally charged with multiple felonies, including aggravated murder, discharge of a firearm and obstruction of justice. The aggravated murder count carries the possibility of the death penalty or, at a minimum, 25 years in prison.
