Stephen Miran, President Trump’s pick to join the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, will testify Thursday morning before the Senate Banking Committee.

The confirmation hearing for Miran, who currently serves as chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers (CEA), comes as Trump has moved to gain control of the traditionally independent central bank.

The president has berated Fed Chair Jerome Powell online and in person over interest rate decisions and ordered board member Lisa Cook to be removed over mortgage fraud claims. Cook is suing Trump to block the order.

Miran was tapped to serve the remainder of the term for the seat vacated last month by former Fed. Gov. Adriana Kugler.

The event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EDT.
