(NEXSTAR) — For LEGO fanatics, there may be no kits more exciting than the company’s Star Wars lineup, like the Landspeeder, Imperial Star Destroyer, and any version of the Millennium Falcon.
If you’re looking to add to your collection of Star Wars LEGO sets, you need not wait much longer — though you may need the next month to save up for it.
On Thursday, LEGO unveiled its highly anticipated “Star Wars Death Star – Ultimate Collector Series.”
Lego kits could be better investment than gold, researchers say
“With an astonishing 9,023 pieces, this is the largest LEGO Star Wars set to date, designed to transport fans into the heart of the Galactic Empire’s most infamous space station,” LEGO said in a press release.
Unlike former Death Star kits that were 3D globes, LEGO’s newest model is a slice of it, like a diorama that could be placed on a shelf. Even the tiniest details you could find in the Death Star make an appearance in this kit. Stormtroopers in a hot tub. Luke Skywalker as a Jedi and a stormtrooper, part of the 38 LEGO minifigures. The Imperial shuttle hangar and, yes, of course, the trash compactor.
Despite its impressive size, the newest Death Star kit is not the largest-ever produced by LEGO.
That title is still held by the Art World Map, which has more than 11,000 pieces, followed by the Eiffel Tower set with 10,001 pieces. The Death Star will come in fourth overall in terms of pieces, just behind the Titanic set released in 2021.

It is, however, the most expensive LEGO set ever to hit the market. When it becomes available for purchase next month, the Death Star will sell for $999.99, LEGO confirmed. At $849.99, the Millennium Falcon set released in 2017 is currently the most expensive set available on LEGO’s website.
The Death Star will be available for early access on October 1 on LEGO’s website and in stores for LEGO Insiders, and available for all starting on October 4. If you purchase the set between October 1-7, you’ll receive a TIE Fighter with Imperial Hangar Rack, while supplies last.

Not sure you can afford this new set? You could try playing the Powerball — if you win the $1.7 billion jackpot currently up for grabs and select the cash payout (the smallest of the two), you’d still be able to buy roughly 485,000 Death Star sets.
