DENVER (KDVR) — Safety deposit boxes will be no more as one of the largest banks in the nation will begin “to phase out all remaining safe deposit boxes.”

A JPMorgan Chase & Co. spokesperson told NewsNation affiliate KDVR that in 2021, the bank decided to stop offering the option to new customers. At the time of the decision, existing customers weren’t necessarily impacted.

The spokesperson for the bank told KDVR:

“As our customers continue to look to us for advice and financial solutions, we have decided to phase out all remaining safe deposit boxes across the country. Doing so allows our bankers to spend more time helping clients.”

The Chase spokesperson did not provide an exact timeline of when the “phase out” will begin or how long customers will have to retrieve their items, but did add that existing customers will be notified in advance.
