PURCHASE, N.Y. (WTVO) — PepsiCo is joining the push to provide cola lovers with more gut-friendly fiber.

The company on Monday announced its new Pepsi Prebiotic Cola, a soft drink it claims will have the “same classic crisp, refreshing taste of Pepsi — with the added functional ingredient of 3 grams of prebiotic fiber.”

Coca-Cola confirms cane sugar recipe coming

The new cola boasts 30 calories, no artificial sweeteners and 5 grams of cane sugar, according to a news release.

“From the iconic blue can, to the consumer-preferred Pepsi Zero Sugar, our portfolio has always adapted to the needs and flavor preferences of the consumer,” Ram Krishnan, CEO of PepsiCo Beverages U.S., said in the release.

According to the Mayo Clinic, prebiotics — not to be confused with probiotics — are largely found in high-fiber foods and may stimulate growth of “good germs in the gut.” Probiotics are found in fermented foods and help with digestion.

Pepsi Prebiotic Cola will soon be one of several prebiotic sodas on the market, alongside brands including Poppi and Olipop.

The announcement of Pepsi’s new prebiotic cola also came the same day that Coca-Cola confirmed plans to release a cane sugar version of the classic drink. The news followed an announcement by President Trump, who claimed that the company had agreed to make the beverage with cane sugar after he had spoken to executives.

Pepsi’s Prebiotic Cola will be available online this fall, and in retail stores by early 2026.

“We can’t wait for the world to try the taste of Pepsi Prebiotic Cola for themselves,” Krishnan said.
