(NewsNation) — Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., is concerned that the U.S. will need to step up its investments in fields like AI if it wishes to stay competitive with countries like China.

Speaking at the inaugural Hill Nation Summit on Wednesday, the vice chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee said, “China is a remarkable competitor” when it comes to innovations with AI.

“One of the things that keeps me up at night is you combine bio and AI. China literally now is experimenting on humans to create super soldiers, it’s right out of a science fiction film,” Warner said.

According to Warner, action will need to be taken.

“I’m a market guy, but the market alone is not going to meet the kind of investments that our competitors are making,” Warner said.
