(NewsNation) — President Trump announced on Truth Social on Saturday that the United States carried out a “successful attack” on three of Iran’s nuclear sites.
“We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan,” Trump wrote Saturday night.
“All planes are now outside of Iran air space. A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow. All planes are safely on their way home. Congratulations to our great American Warriors. There is not another military in the World that could have done this. NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
President Trump also announced that he would be addressing the nation at 10 p.m. ET.
A source close to the White House told NewsNation, “President Trump has said for over a decade that Iran cannot have a nuke; tonight, he turned those words into reality. Next up, dismantling Hezbollah cells in Latin America and Venezuela.”
Mike Nelson, retired Special Forces Lieutenant Colonel and member of the Atlantic Council’s Counterterrorism Project, told NewsNation, “This means it’s likely that this ‘phase’ of the war is over… if we were effective, Israel can declare victory and stop the strikes.
“But I think Iran will try and find a way to retaliate against us, but maybe not immediately. They may do some pro forma missile strikes against Israel and against our forces in Iraq, much like after Soleimani, but if they do a real retaliation, it will be something more targeted. We need to wait and see if the strike was effective. The MOPs (Mission Operations Element) were not a guarantee, but hopefully they destroyed Fordow.”
