(NewsNation) — It may not be spooky season yet, but tariffs may have already frightened some of the Halloween fun away.
Spirit Halloween announced it won’t be holding its annual grand opening the retailer’s flagship store in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, because of “international disruptions and supply chain challenges.”
Though the continent’s largest Halloween retailer didn’t explicitly mention tariffs when announcing the decision, the pop-up shop outsourced costume manufacturing to locations in Asia, per Dragon Sourcing. President Donald Trump’s legally contested tariffs have mainly targeted China.
Businesses could see tariff refunds, but consumers likely won’t
Despite the event’s cancellation, the company clarified it is far from the cemetery.
“Spirit Halloween is still very much alive, with over 1,500 stores on track to open! We will begin opening stores in mid-August for another killer season,” the chain announced on Instagram.
Spirit Halloween plans on bringing back the grand opening in 2026.
