How Trump is gearing up for midterms

(NewsNation) — President Donald Trump will attend a fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago hosted by the Republican National Committee as he and his party look to start building their war chest for the 2026 midterms.

There has reportedly been a growing anxiety among some GOP members over next year’s midterm elections, but Trump himself has been confident in their chances.

What is looming over the start of fundraising and prep for midterms is Trump’s last 100 days in office and how candidates heading into the midterms will use his policies and campaign on them. Another thing looming over the midterms is Trump’s tariff policies and how it could affect the election.

Trump spoke at the National Republican Congressional Committee dinner in April and defended his policies and talked about the party’s chances in the 2026 midterms.

“We’re going to win the midterm elections and we’re going to have a tremendous, thundering landslide,” Trump said. “I really think we’re helped a lot by the tariff situation that’s going on, it’s a good situation not a bad one, it’ll be legendary.”

In NewsNation’s town hall on Tuesday, Trump did acknowledge that the tariffs could have effects on Republicans’ chances in 2026, but said he is doing “what needs to be done” to change U.S. trade policy.
