LAWRENCE (KSNT) – Wedding dresses may now cost brides even more this year due to a jump in tariffs.
Brides might see a spike in the cost of their dresses due to the 20% tariffs President Donald Trump has placed on all imported goods coming from China. With most dresses coming from China, customers are now starting to feel the impact here in Kansas.
J-Lynn Bridal on Massachusetts Street in Lawrence helps give women the custom look they want for their wedding day. However, almost all of its dresses come from overseas.

Store owner Jenna Dick told 27 News they’re working to keep prices as low as they can for customers, but they’re stuck in the same boat as other businesses. Since J-Lynn Bridal orders all of its dresses from outside of the country, each try-on dress you see inside is an out-of-pocket cost for the store.
“I have to outright buy them and it’s full price, so it’s the same amount for what our clients pay for them,” Dick said. “When the prices go up, I mean it goes up for everyone. It goes up for me just to have dresses here for our clients and then the dresses that come in for our clients as well.”
Many brides claim their dresses well in advance, but Dick encourages bridges to get what they need sooner rather than later if they have an upcoming wedding. You can learn more about J-Lynn Bridal by heading to its website, calling 785-840-4664 or by heading to its location at 731 Massachusetts Street.
Trump declared Wednesday, April 2 to be “Liberation Day” and will mark the occasion by rolling out tariffs that he claims will free the nation from foreign goods. Trump initially set a 10% tariff on all Chinese imports in February but later doubled it to 20% a month later.
