(NewsNation) — Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry, a Republican, is at the White House on Monday for a “major economic development announcement” regarding his state.
Landry was also at the White House last week when President Donald Trump signed an executive order aimed at eliminating the Department of Education. Such a move would also need congressional approval.

On NewsMax, Landry praised the executive order and Education Secretary Linda McMahon and said states need “flexibility.” He said on social media that the order puts “education back into the hands of parents.”
In 2023, Trump endorsed Landry in the Louisiana governor’s race, saying he had been a “fantastic attorney general.” Landry served as Louisiana’s attorney general from 2016 to 2024. In February, Trump appointed Landry to the Council of Governors.
Landry and Trump are expected to deliver remarks from the Roosevelt Room at 2 p.m. ET.
