Canada’s conservatives trying to associate Carney with Trudeau

(NewsNation) — Although Canada’s next prime minister, Mark Carney, is trying to differentiate himself from his predecessor, Justin Trudeau, the country’s Conservative Party is attempting to associate the two, journalist Wyatt Sharpe says.

The host of “The Wyatt Sharpe” show said conservatives are now going on the defense after the governing Liberal Party elected Carney as Canada’s next leader.

What conservatives are saying right now is that Pierre Poilievre, Carney’s conservative rival in the upcoming federal election, will not be able to maintain the current 20% lead he has.

“I think the root cause of it is the fact that inflation is a big issue in Canada right now,” Sharpe said. “It’s impacting many families across the country.”

Conservatives are having a difficult time tying Trudeau to Carney, Sharpe said, because he put Canada in a better place than other countries during the 2008 recession.
