GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Better Business Bureau of West Michigan is providing some tips if you’re looking to buy tickets to the Detroit Lions game on Sunday.

Even though the BBB said it has not received any scam reports of fraudulent ticket purchases for the Lions-Vikings game, it is aware of ticket scams going on through fake websites and social media for other events.

“As we get into this exciting time, especially with football or any event, there will be a rush to get tickets, and ticket prices are getting pretty expensive. So we’re looking for those deals, and that’s where scammers and people with bad intentions are going to try to take people’s money, especially on social media,” said Katie Grevious, marketing and community relations manager for BBB of West Michigan.

The BBB provided the following tickets for purchasing tickets this weekend:

Purchase from the venue whenever possible.

Consider the source.

Look up the seller or broker on BBB.org to see if there are complaints.

Check to see if the vendor is a member of the National Association of Ticket Brokers or look up on VerifiedTicketSource.com.

Check the web address for a lock symbol and do not click through emails or online ads.

Use payment methods that come with protection, like a credit card.

If you are unsure, verify your tickets with “Will Call.”

“Always go with your gut. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Price shops a little bit,” said Grevious. “Look at the actual NFL website and see what those tickets are actually going for. If you find something that is at a steep, steep discount, it’s probably too good to be true.”

More information can be found on the BBB’s scam alert about fake events and phony tickets.

“If you see something or you see a price that doesn’t seem right or a website that seems fishy selling discounted hotel rooms or discounted tickets, report it right away to the BBB. We share that information not only with the public so that we can warn others but also with legitimate organizations like the (attorney general’s) office, (Federal Trade Commission), the FBI, and local police,” said Grevious.

If you can’t attend the game but want to show your support, you may want to purchase your gear now. Meijer said Lions gear sales are noticeably higher than last year and 2022.
