(NewsNation) — Bill O’Reilly believes the “woke movement” is “anti-American.”

“It’s so predacious to this country,” O’Reilly said on NewsNation’s “On Balance.” “If they don’t like you, they’re gonna punish you by accusations.”

The term “woke” has been used by several presidential GOP candidates, including former President Donald Trump, ABC News reported.

“Woke” is defined by GOP Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as “the belief there are systemic injustices in American society and the need to address them,” according to DeSantis’ general counsel, per The Washington Post.

“We reject woke ideology,” DeSantis said in his election 2022 night speech. “We will never ever surrender to the woke agenda. People have come here because of our policies.”

The term gained widespread recognition in the U.S. following the murder of George Floyd and has since been used to describe an awareness of cultural diversity and social inequalities, according to Axios. Trump has since selected Cabinet members who have pledged to eliminate “woke” influences from the federal government, Axios reported.

Since Election Day and Trump’s victory, MSNBC has seen its audience drop by over 40%, Fox News reported.

O’Reilly believes MSNBC has “smeared the NBC News brand so badly that NBC News and Comcast know it cannot recover.”

“I have nothing to back this up,” O’Reilly said. “But I do believe I’m correct.”
